Bernard and Arthur Bohn
Domaine Bohn - Reichsfeld, Alsace
84% Gewürztraminer, 16% Riesling - 13.5% abv
Riesling on sandstone-volcanic soil, Gewürztraminer on silty soil. 50 year old vines. Maceration of Gewürztraminer for 3 weeks, 80% whole grapes, 20% de-stemmed. After pressing, addition of Riesling must. Aged for 9 months in old oak barrels. Fermentation on indigenous yeasts. No added sulphites.
The Gewürztraminer grapes offer an aromatic, orange peel, stone fruit characteristic. The blended Riesling adds a fresh and upbeat acidity trip. Seriously elegant and exciting from start to finish.
If you like more expression from the Gewürztraminer, then chilling the wine between 8-10 ̊ C is enough, but if you would like to tone down the aromatic vibes, chilling this wine a little colder will show off more of the fresh, vibrant Riesling style.
Pair with ceviche, white fish and cream sauce, muenster and gruyère cheese, omelette. You can also enjoy this wine without food.
