István Bencze
Bencze Birtok - Hegymagas, Hungary
100% Pinot Noir - 11.5% abv
This is Bencze's entry level, fruity, easy-going Pinot Noir from the bottom part of their vineyard planted in 1999.
Vintage 2018 was hot, sometimes tropical and rainy, so the harvest time was early, 22-23rd August.
They de-stemmed the grapes to open fermenters. During the maceration period, they worked stomping their feet on the grapes to crush them, then later only with their hands. After 10 days skin-contact they pressed, then aged it on the lees for 5 months in stainless steel tanks. Bottled without fining or filtration and with 10 mg/L sulfur added.
Slightly sour redcurrant's with a wave of acidity. Hints of chocolate on the finish.
Best served with a slight chill to the wine and can be paired perfectly with a juicy tuna steak or with no food at all. Still tasting great the next day.
