The Bencze estate was founded in 2011 with a third of a hectare (small plot) on the south slope ofSzent György-hegy. István Bencze and his wife fell in love with the untouched nature they had found there. Their land is located on the northwest side of the lakeBalaton, close to the villageHegymagas, western part of Hungary.
Now, they are working on 18 hectares of vineyards. Their main goal is to rediscover the old and unremembered Hungarian grape varieties and to discover the potential of their volcanic hill. By working with the minimum intervention as possible, they believe that they can preserve the fruit’s original characteristics, energy and the unique taste of their terroir.
Check out this very beautiful video clip of their land and also a bit more about István's vision to winemaking here.
